Seabreeze High School
This is my dads page. Rulison(RED)Archer II,he was a member of the 1937 Seabreeze graduating class. He was in the automobile business as the American Austin and Bantam dealer in Daytona in the late 30's. He also was the Pontiac dealer located on N. Ridgewood at the corner of 2nd ave in the 40's. He later worked at the Midway on the boardwalk and had several Radio & TV repair shops.
MAINLAND HIGH SCHOOL
Rulison "Arch" Archer III is a native of Daytona Beach, Florida. He attended Mainland High School with the Class of 1958 and as a youngster helped his dad in Radio & Television Repair Service and Amusement Arcades on the Boardwalk.
He joined the U.S. Army and became a radio repairman serving in Japan and Korea. Upon return to the states he was an instructor at the Southeastern Signal School at Ft. Gordon, Georgia and then became a NIKE Missile computer technician in the Dallas, Texas area until' his separation from service. He was then a Daytona Beach Police Officer for a short time.
Arch worked for several aerospace firms during the GEMINI/ APOLLO days and was involved in such programs as the GEMINI 4 flight, the first controlled from the MISSION CONTROL CENTER in Houston. He was also there for the GEMINI 6 & 7 flights which were the first rendezvous in space.
During APOLLO he participated in the first Saturn 5 launches AS50l & AS502 at Cape Canaveral. For the first manned flight of APOLLO 7 he worked in Mission Control and was involved in the first live televis...Expand for more
ion broadcast from space. Arch was also there for the first manned orbit of the moon by APOLLO 8 which was the first full blown APOLLO / SATURN launch.
Arch has also worked at the Goddard Space Flight Center and the Goldstone Tracking Stations and a DOD tracking station in Thule Greenland.
He began his career with the WALT DISNEY WORLD COMPANY in 1973 as a Digital Animation Computer Technician in DACS in the tunnel. It was there that he was first sent to REEDY CREEK UTILITIES CO.( The power plant behind Walt Disney World.) to work on the Lockheed Computers of which he was familiar with from his previous employers. He was later transferred there.
Arch left Disney in 1977 and went to work in SAUDI ARABIA. While there he installed and operated computer systems for ARAMCO for the computerized loading of oil tankers at both onshore and offshore terminals and in refinery's. He also worked for the Saudi government at the King Khalid International Airport on flight information, security and power system computers.
He returned to Reedy Creek in 1981 for a short while and then went to Central Shops as an Electronics Systems Planner for the construction of EPCOT. When EPCOT opened in 1982 Arch became a Supervisor at Epcot Computer Central, but not being able to work on the hardware he later transferred back to Reedy Creek as a SCADA technician.
In 1988 he became a Power Systems Dispatcher in the Reedy Creek Energy Services Control Room and remained there until 1992 when he once again returned to being a technician in the Instrumentation and Controls department where he stayed to retire on April 30,2003.
Arch plans to pursue his hobby of Amateur Radio, to travel some, work some or part time and stay young as long as good health prevails.
